Visakhapatnam, March 26: A local court on Tuesday sentenced a rowdy-sheeter and woman to life imprisonment for murdering former corporator of Gajuwaka and Congress leader B Vijaya Reddy in February 2019.

The court of the fourth additional district judge also slapped a fine of Rs 12,000 on the convicts Kola Venkata Hemant Kumar (30) and his partner Neeli Radhika Devi (40).

It may be recalled that B Vijaya Reddy was found murdered in her residence at Akkayyapalem under fourth-town police station limits in Vizag city on February 25, 2019 morning when her husband B Vishnu Reddy, a bank employee, was away from home.

Police nabbed Hemanth Kumar from Bheemili and Radhika from Arilova. They met Vijaya Reddy when he was trying to sell her flat.

Hemanth and Radhika posing as buyers met Vijaya Reddy and the deal was struck at Rs1.35 crore. During the conversation, the victim discussed her gold jewelry. A few days after the deal, Hemanth and Radhika decided to rob the victim. Both went to the victim's house on February 25 where Hemanth hacked her to death and decamped with gold jewelry.

DCP (crime branch) A Venkata Ratnam said Hemant Kumar held Vizag MP MVV Satyanarayana’s wife, his son, and a friend in June 2023 for ransom. Hemant was also involved in several other criminal cases.
