Amaravati: Harish Kumar Gupta (IPS) is the new Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP). The officer will take charge immediately and a compliance report will be submitted to the Election Commission.

A day earlier, the Election Commission of India transferred AP DGP KV Rajendranath Reddy; a week before the AP State Assembly and Lok Sabha elections 2024. Rajendranath has been actively working for the polls in the state.

ECI took the decision reportedly following the complaint filed by the Opposition Telugu Desam Party. There were also earlier incidents when TDP president Nara Chandrababu Naidu alleged that the DGP has completely failed to control the law and order in the state, including mining activities, and anti-social elements.

The new DGP is a 1992 IPS officer who earlier served as Addl DGP for AP, director general of police, railways, and principal secretary of the home department in Andhra Pradesh.
